Here is an excerpt from the manual:
Closed-circuit (standby) current cutout
The function of the closed circuit cutout is to switch off loads that consume closed circuit current. It is controlled by the load cutout relay K72, which includes a voltage filter to reduce ripple in the electrical system. The closed circuit current cutout is connected to various systems depending on the model and year of the vehicle. For example, in the 7 series (E38) up to model year 1996, it controls seat adjustment, rear head restraint adjustment, steering column adjustment, and sun shade. In later models, it controls seat/steering column memory. The relay is driven by terminal 15 and the "load cutout" signal from the general module of the ZKE III.
If you are experiencing audio system issues, such as poor reception or interference noise, please refer to the symptom list in the manual for possible causes and solutions. The manual also covers cassette/CD operation, volume/speaker problems, and station storage instructions.
