Vintage plans reprints are available for building the Atom Smasher crossbow, which are approximately 50 years old. A crossbow is considered easier to make than a long bow and is also less difficult to shoot accurately. The power of this crossbow may surprise those unfamiliar with archery, as it has demonstrated the ability to shoot a bolt through a thick telephone directory and a 3/32" piece of sheet steel used as backing. It is important to note that such a powerful weapon must be used with the utmost caution. The bow on this model was constructed from a junkyard leaf spring from an Austin car.
