ADJUSTMENT OF THE IDLING SPEED
Start the engine and let the coolant reach its operating temperature: 92±2°C (197.5±4.2°F). Then, switch off the engine and disconnect the oxygen sensor and idling speed adjuster. Start the engine and check the rotation speed on the diagnosis system, which should be 900 rpm. If it is not correct, use the by-pass to balance and adjust the engine speed for both cylinder banks. It is not recommended to adjust the throttle stroke adjuster for idle speed. If the adjustment is difficult, follow these steps:
Tighten the by-pass adjusters.
Balance both cylinder banks to bring the idle speed to 850 rpm using the throttle stroke adjusters.
Open the by-pass adjustment screws and set the engine speed to 900 rpm.
If you adjust the throttle stroke adjuster, you must also check and potentially adjust the potentiometer, ensuring the absolute angles are between -1 and 3 (corresponding to 400-600 mV). The maximum difference between these values should not exceed 2.1 (corresponding to 70 mV).
If the idle speed adjustment exceeds 4.5" while adjusting the potentiometers, throttle stroke screws, or accelerator control cable, switch off the engine and repeat the procedure.
Check the balance of both banks using mercury columns while progressively increasing the speed to 2,500 rpm. If an adjustment is needed, use the throttle cable adjuster.
GEARBOX DISASSEMBLY FROM THE CAR
Place the car on a lifting bridge.
Remove the rear wheels and underbody flatbed.
Disconnect the oxygen sensors and gearbox control rod.
Unscrew the fastening nuts on the clutch housing and gearbox supports.
Use a column jack to remove the assembly and position it on a stand.
Disassemble the parts and check the contact of the bevel gear pair, pinion pre-load, and inner parts.
Determine the shims of the spacer 13 and 14 for the pinion and crown contact and preload.
